The fashion industry understands and celebrates that the world is not binary, clothing sizing does not reflect this.
That's why we created My Size CIC - a Community Interest Company based in the UK. We are researching and developing a clothing sizing system for the Transfeminine community - the first of it’s kind globally, to take the guesswork out of buying lingerie and underwear.
Without correct sizing in clothing (and in particular lingerie) nothing fits right. The needs of an ever growing global community are not being met in terms of fit and sizing availability.
To date all work has been personally funded, After taking measurements with Trans groups up and down the country and working with technical specialists to clean the data we have gathered we have been able to generate the first round of sizing. We are now at the stage of producing lingerie samples in all sizes which will be tried and wearer-tested by the community, amendments will be made as necessary until we have a size range that actually works - for the first time! As you may imagine, this is a costly and time consuming exercise, so we started a gofundme to ask for support to make this a reality and potentially change the lives of many people. Any donation you can make matters. Every share, every follow and like on social media, and every penny will make this happen.
When we applied for government funding and grants, we were told that our project wasn’t business focused enough. But when we applied for community funding, they said our project is too much of a business! In a world that marginalizes Trans people, it is certainly hard to raise funds for Trans projects!
Once the sizing system is tested and in place it will allow us to create a lingerie line for the community unlike anything before.
Disrupting the lingerie industry by offering something totally new.
Sustainability is key - as correctly fitted garments will create less waste and over-buying.
Safety first - it is paramount that Trans women and Gender Expansive people are able to socially transition in safety and comfort, the difference correctly fitted under garments will make is indisputable.
Comfort is top of our list - as well as being designed to be beautiful garments everything that we produce will be comfortable. Wear these garments all day and all night without pain or discomfort.
Visibility and inclusion - we truly believe that without equity for Trans women there is no equity for women. As the old saying goes 'visibility is being asked to the party, inclusion is being asked to dance'. We want to dance together!
Fashion History - this project has the potential to change the way clothing is sized and produced in the future - be a part of the story. Let's create fashion history together!
Providing care - part of our mission is to make this available to everyone that needs it and we will be working with Trans community groups to help get correctly fitting underwear to those who need it.
